Megan: These paintings (combination of sewn fabric pieces and paint) are intense to experience. The scale is larger than life, the style of the figures are grotesque, and the vibrant color placements are striking. The feeling I am left with while I am in this gallery space is...uncomfortable? The imagery confronts me with themes from black/African culture, feminism, sexuality, and possibly classism. The imagery combined with the construction of the figures, exaggeration of their bodies, and the bold colors has an effect that makes me want to look away but also can't stop looking because it is so visually complex.
